IJRDA affirms its condemnation of the attack on the managing editor of Jehan magazine in Arbil

Iraqi Association for Defending the rights of Iraqi journalists, said that the journalist (Na Ba Corran), managing editor of (Jehan Information) has been subjected to aggression, beaten by unknown persons in the city of Arbil, on Saturday, 31 October. The official spokesman for the Association Nadhum Al-Ugaili, in a press statement, said that Corran told the Association office in the province of Kurdistan, that three men attacked and beat him in Al-Iskan, a suburb city of Arbil, unimpeded by security forces. Corran also revealed that the offenders told him that the cause of the attack is his journalistic work. The spokesman of the Association said that this attack comes less than a week after a court decision to prevent Corran from traveling, following the news the court considered as a subject of defamation against one of Kurdistan Government ministers. Ugaili said that IJRDA strongly calls for the region s government and the judiciary who is
responsible for the investigation of the attack to show seriousness in investigating the reasons behind the accident. The Association also affirms its condemnation of the abuse incident, which is unacceptable and is regarded as a reprehensible pattern of freedom suppression and intimidation which intends to restrict the free press in the region.
