IJRDA condemns the attack of Al-Rusafa second Directorate guards on Iraqi journalist

The Iraqi Journalists Rights Defending Association condemns the attack of Al-Rusafa second Directorate guards on the Iraqi journalist -Saad Shahid Rikabi. The Association confirmed that elements of Iraqi security force guarding Al-Rusafa second Directorate of Education attack a journalist as he tried to hold press coverage of the Directorate on Sunday. The official spokesman for the Association, Nadhum Al-Ugaili ,in a press statement, said that "members of the Directorate escorts beaten colleague Saad Shahid Al-Rikabi -managing editor of Al-Sharq journal while he was in the Directorate for journalistic purposes". Ugaili added that "the security forces continued its aggression, in spite of Al- Rikabi release of his press identity, and they paid him severely outside the Directorate building after breaking his mobile phone". The Association affirms its condemnation of this attack as an assault on press freedoms and the right of access to information which is constitutionally guaranteed, as demanded by the Directorate and the Ministry of Education to investigate the incident in question and hold the perpetrators and those who stand behind it.
